Scanning Records

How do I scan a vinyl record?

Open VinylScan and tap the camera button. Point your camera at either the vinyl record label or the album cover. Make sure there's good lighting and the text is readable. Hold steady and the app will automatically recognize and identify your record.

What if my record isn't recognized?

Try improving your lighting, getting closer to the label, or cleaning the record surface. You can also try scanning the album cover instead. For very rare or obscure pressings, manual search functionality is available in the app.

Can I scan 45s, 10-inch records, or 78s?

Yes! VinylScan works with all vinyl record formats including 7-inch 45s, 10-inch records, 12-inch LPs, and 78 RPM records. The recognition technology adapts to different formats and label styles.

Pricing & Valuation

How accurate are the price estimates?

Our prices are based on actual sold records from various marketplaces, not inflated listing prices. This provides realistic market values. Prices update regularly and factor in condition, pressing, and market trends. Remember that condition significantly affects value.

What is condition grading?

Condition grading assesses the physical state of your vinyl from Mint (perfect) to Poor (heavily damaged). VinylScan provides grading suggestions based on industry standards (Goldmine grading). Condition dramatically affects value.

Why do prices vary for the same album?

Different pressings, countries of origin, condition, and rarity all affect value. A first pressing from the original country is typically worth more than later reissues. VinylScan identifies specific pressings to give you accurate values.

Collection Management

How do I add records to my collection?

After scanning a record, tap the "Add to Collection" button. You can add notes, set the condition, and organize it however you like. Your collection syncs automatically across all your devices via iCloud.

Can I organize my collection into categories?

Yes! You can sort by artist, genre, value, date added, or create custom tags. Use the search and filter features to quickly find specific records in your collection.

How does collection value tracking work?

VinylScan automatically calculates your total collection value based on current market prices. Premium users can track value changes over time and see which records are appreciating or depreciating.

Account & Subscription

What's the difference between Free and Premium?

Free includes basic scanning with limited scans per month. Premium ($3.99/week or $29.99/year) unlocks unlimited scans, detailed price history, unlimited collection storage, advanced condition grading, value tracking, and priority support.

How do I manage my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID. Go to Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions on your device. From there you can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel your subscription.

Is my data backed up?

Yes! Your collection data is automatically backed up to your iCloud account and syncs across all your Apple devices. Make sure iCloud Drive is enabled in your device settings.
