Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about VinylScan
General Questions
What is VinylScan?
VinylScan is an iOS app that helps you instantly identify vinyl records by scanning the label or cover with your device's camera. It provides accurate market valuations, detailed record information, and helps you manage your vinyl collection.
How does VinylScan work?
Simply take a photo of your vinyl record label or album cover. Our AI-powered recognition technology identifies the record and retrieves detailed information including pricing, tracklist, release details, and more. You can then save it to your personal collection.
What devices are supported?
VinylScan is available for iPhone (iOS 17.0+), iPad (iPadOS 17.0+), Mac with Apple Silicon (macOS 14.0+), and Apple Vision Pro (visionOS 1.0+).
Is VinylScan free?
Yes, VinylScan is free to download and use with basic features. Premium subscriptions ($3.99/week or $29.99/year) unlock unlimited scans, detailed price data, collection tracking, and priority support.
Features & Functionality
How accurate is the vinyl recognition?
VinylScan uses advanced AI image recognition trained on millions of vinyl records. Recognition accuracy is typically very high for common releases. For best results, ensure good lighting and clear visibility of the label or cover text.
Where does pricing data come from?
Our pricing is based on actual sold records from various marketplaces, not inflated listing prices. This gives you realistic market values for your vinyl. Prices are updated regularly to reflect current market conditions.
Can I track my entire collection?
Yes! Premium users can save unlimited records to their digital collection, track total collection value, add personal notes, and organize their vinyl library. Your collection syncs across all your Apple devices via iCloud.
Does VinylScan work offline?
An internet connection is required for scanning and retrieving record information, as our AI recognition and price data are cloud-based. However, you can browse your saved collection offline.
What information does VinylScan provide?
For each record, you'll see: album title, artist, release year, record label, catalog number, tracklist, pressing details, matrix numbers, condition grading suggestions, and current market value.
Privacy & Data
Is my data private?
Yes. VinylScan does not collect or share your personal information. Your collection data is stored locally on your device and in your private iCloud account. We take privacy seriously and follow industry best practices.
Do you store my photos?
No. Photos taken for scanning are processed for recognition only and are not stored on our servers. The app only saves the identified record information, not your photographs.
Can I export my collection data?
Yes, Premium users can export their collection data. This feature is perfect for backup purposes or if you want to use your collection data elsewhere.

Try these tips:
- Ensure good lighting without glare or shadows
- Hold your device steady and get close to the label
- Make sure the text is readable in your camera view
- Try scanning the album cover instead of the label (or vice versa)
- Clean the record surface if it's dusty or dirty
The app keeps crashing. What can I do?
First, make sure you have the latest version of VinylScan from the App Store. Try restarting your device. If the problem persists, please contact us at hi@anymind.io with details about your device model and iOS version.
My collection isn't syncing across devices. Why?
